Cannula Requirements

Please Note:

Larger gauge cannulas correlate with faster injection rates, thus the need for a larger vein further up the arm.

Power injectable CVC lines, PowerPORT and PowerPICC can be used for contrast injections instead of a cannula if accessible and patent.

Cannulas should be freely accessible. We are unable to piggyback IV lines as they are prone to splitting since they are not rated for high-pressure injections.

For patients with multiple scans in one visit, the default cannula size will be for the study requiring the fastest injection rate.

(i.e. CAP and brain with contrast for a > 80 kg patient: default cannula size is 20G).
