MRI referral expectations
Require specific clinical question or a short list of differentials
Avoid generic question e.g. cause ? or a whole lot of clinical findings and no question
→ require question/ ddx list us to prescribe the appropriate study/protocol.
Referring team Registrar or Consultant that has written the request should be the person directly calling and referring to the MRI radiologist
→ we may ask more clinical questions and determine when this patient should be done in order of priority.
Screening Questionnaire must be accurately completed before calling, especially after hours
Pacemakers: very important to check before calling, especially evening/overnight
eGFR must be present (will affect if patient requires contrast)
All referrals must have clinician contact number
Pager or extension or mobile
DO NOT LEAVE BLANK
If studies are being ordered out of hours, document in contact field after pager/extension stating →“out of hours/covering HMO/intern _______” so that the appropriate home-team pager can be contacted in-hours (rather than invalid after-hours pager numbers)
